请教高手: boxplot中, notch的横向尺寸是可以用 notch.frac 来设置的, 那么纵向的尺寸可不可以设置? 图画出来, notch常常超过box的长度, 在顶上或者底下长出两个耳朵来, 难看死了. 就是example(boxplot) 中的例子也是这样.
另外, 我用的是windows的版本, 不知道是不是版本的问题, 我看有的linux下的截图很pp的, 没有这种耳朵的.

这不是操作系统的问题,也不是R版本的问题,notch是一个非参数的区间估计,这个区间可能会超出上下四分位数,那么出现你说的“耳朵”也就很正常了。另外,这个“纵向尺寸”是定死了的(显著性水平5%),目前没法调整。

首先应该考虑的图的功能是什么,而不是怎么样看上去更好看,要是数据不好看的时候还想让图怎么好看?
boxplot有很多变异品种,比如box-percentile plot,letter-value boxplot,等等。

我觉得数据都是美的, 因为它们都是客观真实的近似.
而我认为图不够美, 却原来是我自己的无知, 不知道其中蕴含的意义. 呵呵
