LaTeX念成“擂台克斯”是没错的。不过这里有点要注意的地方。有次我去书店买书,告诉一个小姑娘模样的售货员:“我要买本Latex/leiteks/的书”,那个售货员马上说:“喔,是Latex/la:teks/的书。”开始我还很纳闷,为什么她要改我的读音呢?后来才明白,Latex在英语里面是橡胶的意思,而避孕套则恰恰是用Latex作材料,所以Latex在很多美国人眼里就是套套的代名词。有些美国人比较有经验,通过不同的读音来区分这两个意思。幸亏这是学校的书店,否则的话售货员就会给我一本“夫妻性生活大全”。
不过我还是觉得我们大可不必要改读音,还是读成/leiteks/比较好,绝大多数人还是能正确的理解你。
只是和老外交流时要注意语言环境,避免上来就问:“Do you know how to use latex?”。

/lei/ and /la:/ are both fine. But the point is the X being pronounced as /k/ not /ks/. This X is from Greek (as in chi-square).
The word latex (rubber) is of Latin origin, and hence pronounced as usual in English.

呵呵,你是对的。很多词如果根据其原词根发音,和英语(尤其指美国英语)的差别大的很,只是很多人都这么错误的念,久而久之,错误的也就成“正确”的了。
